One of the league’s worst first-half franchises in Montreal Impact will need to start sharply if they are to extend Seattle’s two-month winless run on the road. Despite stringing together consecutive MLS home wins just once this season, to Montreal’s credit they have bounced back immediately from a league loss with a win (home or away) on four of six occasions in 2019.
The Canadians have registered just a single first-half goal at home this MLS campaign, but have fought well after half-time, collecting three wins from six home games (W3, D1, L2). However with just ten match goals across those six fixtures, Seattle will need to be on their game offensively.
It may be an opportunity for the visitors to rectify an inconsistent defence that has registered only two clean sheets on the road, whilst leaking 12 goals in their other five away fixtures. Conceding consecutive goals before half-time for two weeks running will be particularly concerning, as will the fact Seattle have scored the opener just once away from home so far.
However, if they can avoid trailing at the break, as they have done in their last seven trips across the USCAN border (HT: W2, D5), they could take advantage of some strong second-half performances that’s seen them rack up a +5 goal difference inside the final half hour.
Players to watch: Panamanian Omar Browne is Montreal’s only multiple goalscorer at home this season. Meanwhile Stefan Frei (SEA) is one of just three keepers to notch up 50+ league saves at a percentage of greater than 70.
Stat attack: Just one of the last six H2Hs produced over 2.5 total goals, with both teams scoring in only one of those six.
Both teams have scored in eight of Seattle’s last ten MLS matches.
Seattle have collected only ten cards in seven MLS away games.
